The bariatric pureed and soft diets are not for the faint of heart. Let’s face it.

Although, congratulations on finishing your liquid diet! Some programs have a pureed and some combine the pureed and soft diet phases. You’ll want to double check with your program guidelines to verify where this recipe fits!

The time has come to embark on some textured foods! It doesn’t have to be all bad.

This recipe allows you to enjoy some new flavors and is very fast to prepare using imitation crab.  The KEY here is TINY bites, go SLOW, pause in between every bite, and stop at the first sign of fullness. Listen to that new pouch and have fun embarking on new flavors again!

Another versatile ingredient in this phase – canned chicken. It can be made several different ways to keep your pureed and soft phase diet more exciting. Programs differ on when you can use canned chicken, so be sure you know when you can introduce this ingredient. Once you can, you might consider trying one of the recipes below (links under photos):

This recipe is for one small portion for those in the soft phase of a Bariatric diet. Recipe can easily be made for more.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz imitation crab
  • 1 tbsp light mayonnaise
  • 1/2 scoop unflavored protein powder
  • 1 pinch seafood seasoning
  • 1 pinch dried dill

Instructions

  • Dice crab meat up to very small pieces.
  • Stir in light mayo and unflavored protein until well combined.
  • Add seasonings and adjust to taste.

Notes

This recipe is for one small portion for those in the soft phase of a Bariatric diet. Recipe can easily be made for more.
*Ideal for the soft diet phase only as lower carbohydrate options are more widely available beyond this initial diet phase.
