Not Too Sweet Vanilla Protein Shake – Bariatric Liquid Diet
Not Too Sweet Vanilla Protein Shake
If there’s one thing Bariatric patients complain to me about…it’s that EVERYTHING IS SO SWEET!
It’s not uncommon that after surgery, taste preferences change and things taste so. much. sweeter. than they did before.
It’s bad timing that they are also on a liquid diet for the first two weeks (on average – every program is different) and what are protein shakes but sweet, sweet, sweet.
While companies are doing a better job about giving different flavor options like chicken bouillon protein powder, the vast majority are still chocolate, vanilla or fruity flavors. (Unjury® is a popular brand for chicken bouillon and Syntrax® Nectar for fruity flavors). Several companies also make an unflavored protein option like this one from Isopure (affiliate link): Isopure Whey Protein Isolate, Unflavored
To cut down on the sweetness on this protein shake, I utilized a 1:1 ratio of vanilla protein to UNFLAVORED protein powder. It made a huuuuuuuge difference on the sweetness. It was much more light and mild. You can certainly use this trick with many other protein drinks!
