I was sent seven flavors: Espresso, Chocolate Mint, Crunchy Peanut Butter, Brownie Crunch, Roasted Peanut, Toasted Coconut and Raspberry Truffle
Nutrition information ranges on each flavor but protein content is 16-17 grams, 17-20 grams carbohydrate and 5-7 grams fat per bar.
Ingredients: Protein Blend {Soy Crisp (Soy Protein, Tapioca Starch, Salt), Rice Protein, Soy Protein} Dark Chocolate, Chicory Root (see more on package on their website)
How it might be used:
Similar to the use of any other protein bar, it’s best to use them for an occasional meal replacement but due to the carbohydrates, best not to use daily or as snacks too frequently. I make the best use of protein bars when I’m traveling and these would hold up great on the go!
Review:
The nutrition of these bars is very appropriate for a bariatric patient. The protein and carbohydrates are nearly balanced and the carbohydrates are only slightly higher than the protein. I personally go by total carbohydrates and not net carbohydrates.
Keeping a NuGo Slim Protein Bar on hand is a GREAT idea for busy mornings or when you get caught without any good choices to eat. I love using these bars when I’m traveling and I need something on hand that will fill me up and keep me out of the dangerous hangry phase :)
The texture of these bars is slightly dense and with some crisp to it (in fact, you’ll notice in the ingredients they utilize a soy crisp). Not the same kind of crispy as the PowerCrunch® Bars, but not as soft as Quest Bars®. I would recommend having them at room temperature but not leaving them in your car on a hot or cold day (not unlike most other bars). The flavors are not overpowering and still very tasty (I really enjoy Chocolate Mint!). They are very filling and it may be likely you only need a half of the bar.
