Life Choice Protein Bars from Walmart®

Have you seen these bars??

I often get emails from patients asking me if a certain protein bar is okay. For several months now, this has been the bar patients are asking about. Why?

Because they’re pretty darn affordable! One box of 5 bars at Walmart® sells for $3.88 ($0.78 per bar pre-tax).

The first reminder I want to point out- is to read the nutrition label for each flavor. In the picture below, for example, all three of these boxes look like they would be the same. Nu-uh. The “protein brownie” was packed with carbs and much lower in protein. Even when boxes look the same and it’s the same company, don’t be tricked into the wrong purchase!

Here is the nutrition label for the Double Chocolate Protein Bar…pay close attention to the protein, carbohydrates and fat.

Nutrition Label for Life Choice Protein Bars at Walmart®What did you see?

Protein is the highest macronutrient in this bar weighing in at 21 grams. Wahoo! What does that mean? That means this bar will FILL YOU UP!

Carbohydrates are lower than the protein (always good) at 16 grams and fat is coming in low at 4.5 grams – awesome.

In fact, this flavor – Double Chocolate was not only the best in terms of nutrition…but it also happened to be my favorite tasting!

I sampled the flavors in the top photo – Double Chocolate, Peanut Butter Extreme and Chocolate Mint.

I would approve all of them for a patient (just one a day) and I would rank the flavors as follows –

1) Double Chocolate

2) Chocolate Mint

3) Peanut Butter Extreme

But that’s a personal preference! I think I would grow tired of these bars too often, but they would be great to throw in my “repertoire” of protein bars to rotate through.

  1. These bars are no longer made. Walmart has stopped producing them. This is a hugh let down to those of us on a high protien intake diet…

  2. I agree Carol!!! It’s a complete shame! I posted this in the summer of 2015 but don’t delete old posts. There are other great bars on the market for high protein but these sure were much more affordable!
